The
Towns at Elba Island
Portoazzurro is the new name of Portolongone, a village
situated at the foot of the promontory, which reaches Longone
fortress, also called S. Giacomo fortress, and built by Filippo
II of Spain in 1563. The small centre is formed by the marina,
which faces the biggest bay in the east side. It is very
picturesque with its uphill roads, its small stone façades, its
fascinating corners and its great square, which mirrors in the
water of the marina..
