THE
BEACHES AT MARCIANA
Procchio gulf is situated on the northern coast of the
Island in a village in Marciana town. The beaches of this gulf
are made up of fine and golden sand. The longest beach (the old
Cervinia beach) is 860 m long. Procchio offers bathing
establishments, rental beach umbrellas and deck-chairs, surfing,
diving and sailing schools. There are also many berths and boat
rental points.
Zanca beach is also famous for “Formiche della Zanca”, a
well-known place by divers for the most beautiful seabed in the
Island. It consists in a group of rocks, appearing on the
surface like little diamonds.
Chiessi beach is situated on the western part of the
Island, in Marciana town. The small bay is mostly rocky with
some parts of gravel beach. The bay is about 80 m long. There
are no bathing establishments and you cannot rent beach
umbrellas or deck-chairs. In the surrounding, you can find bars
and restaurants. No berths are present because of the bay
conformation. The beach can be easily reached by the nearby
village of Chiessi. This place is well-known by snorkelling and
windsurfing lovers thanks to its wonderful seabed and the south
winds.
Pomonte bay is characterized by a red gravel beach.
Pomonte is situated in the town of Marciana, on the west coast
of the Island. The bay is about 240 m long. There are no bathing
establishments, but you can rent beach umbrellas and
deck-chairs. Even if the beach is small, it offers berths and
boat rental points. Thanks to its south-west winds, the beach is
ideal for windsurfing (both for beginners and experienced
windsurfers). The wreck, situated on the seabed 12 m below the
surface of the water and near the beach, is very interesting. It
also represents an ideal “training place” for the beginning
divers.
